Již dvakrát byl Thomas Covenant povolán do podivného světa, kde působí magie. Dvakrát se spojil s Pány z Libokamu v boji proti Pánu Zlorovi, pradávnému nepříteli Končiny. Nyní se vrací znova – do země pustošené Zlorovou armádou. Pánové jsou obklíčeni a bezmocní a Zlorovu vítězství už zdánlivě nic nestojí v cestě. Jediný, kdo může běh událostí zvrátit, je Thomas Covenant. Aniž by sám věřil ve vítězství, rozhodne se nepříteli postavit. Doprovází ho obr, strážce krve a šílená žena, jíž kdysi ublížil.
