  Dürrenmatt je typem spisovatele, který se snaží dobrat pravdy zmocněním syrové reality. Činí tak komediální formou, tvrdí, že jen tak lze odhalit jádro věci a objasnit tragično. Své myšlenky přetavuje do symbolů a s oblibou si volí extrémní situace. Nejlépe mu totiž umožňují uplatňovatkombinaci vypravěčských prvků realistických s nerealistickými. Prostřednictvím jednotlivých postav obrací se na čtenáře s palčivými otázkami, útočí na jeho intelekt a nutí ho k zamyšlení. Všechny Dürrenmattovy příběhy vynikají nesmírně citlivými psychologickými studiemi s hlubokou analýzou všelidských vztahů.
