Je to pochopitelné, protože tvůrci se mohli opřít o jediný tehdy existující film George Lucase a místy popustili uzdu vlastní fantazii. Mezi lety 1977 a 1986 vydával Marvel Comics měsíčně komiksové příběhy, které fanouškům připomínaly zábavu a radost ze světa Star Wars a pomáhaly překonat čekání na další díl filmové série. Tento soubor obsahuje sešity č. 28–49 včetně výroční ročenky č. 1 a komiksovou adaptaci filmu Impérium vrací úder. Spojení Marvelu a Star Wars málem nenastalo, ale nakonec přineslo 107 sešitů a 3 výroční speciály, které představily jedinečné osudy oblíbených postav.
