Jaroslav Kořán was een veelzijdige Tsjechische schrijver en vertaler, wiens carrière zich uitstrekte over scenarioschrijven, politiek en publiceren. Zijn vroege werk omvatte het schrijven van scenario's voor films en na een periode van politieke gevangenschap werd hij een productief vertaler, die invloedrijke moderne fictie vanuit het Engels naar het Tsjechisch bracht. Hij vertaalde tientallen werken en introduceerde lezers aan auteurs als Vonnegut en Bukowski.
