Tři romány, které vznikly v různých obdobích, dva poslední jsou nedokončené. I v nich vykresluje Jane Austenová nelehké osudy ženských hrdinek v Anglii 18. a 19. století, ačkoli román Sanditon se tomuto rámci poněkud vymyká. Opět nechybí detailní popisy charakterů i prostředí a i tentokrát čtenářům nabízí bohatou škálu postav. Od jejích předcházejících próz se však liší pohledem na svět. Zejména román Lady Susan je důkazem, že se na něj nedívá skrze růžové brýle. Sanditon je její poslední dílo a román Watsonovi se jako jediný zachoval v rukopise.
