This short book is a translation of some of the myths of the Yoruba people of Nigeria. It is a history of the creation of the world, the gods, and humanity, and the early days of the sacred city of Ífè, the traditional center of Yoruba culture. The text was recited to the author/translator by the high priests of Ífè, and the book is still cited in some books on traditional Yoruba religion and thought today. It has undeservedly become quite rare, as it can be considered a minor classic in the field.
In a city that could well be New York, a series of identical women are found
dead in suspicious circumstances. Magazine photographer Johnny Farthing, who
is reporting on the suspected murders, is chilled to discover that his fiancee
looks identical to the victims too - and then she disappears.

This book was written to be a training manual and practical guide aimed at the surgical trainee, continence nurse-specialist or the working specialist who wishes to develop an incontinence practice. Although several excellent definitive textbooks already exist on most of the subjects covered in this book, there has been very little directed specifically at these readers. They have particular pressures on their time and need a straightforward and clear discussion of theory and common practice to help them prepare for postgraduate examinations or form the basis for sound clinical pratice in day-to-day management.
It was just a smooth round metal ball, less than a metre in diameter. Although it was still hot from its journey through the huge nothingness of space, it looked quite harmless. But what was it, exactly? A meteor, perhaps - just one of those pieces of rock from outer space that occasionallyfall down on to the planet Earth. But meteors don't usually make strange hissing sounds . . . In this collection of four of his famous science-fiction stories, John Wyndham creates visions of the future that make us think carefully about the way we live now.

Coronet Books recently published STOWAWAY TO MARS, one of John Wyndham’s most famous stories. The title story of this collection, though it can be read as a separate entity, pursues the ideas thrown up by the original novel, drawing them to some fascinating conclusions. Of course, we are now well used to the idea of Man On The Moon, we have become blasé as to the possibilities of inter-planetary travel. But imagine two expeditions to Mars, one British, the other Russian, both in the process of discovering a mechanical race, invented and produced by the Martians as they believe their specie to be dying. The other four novellas in this collection give further evidence of John Wyndham’s genius at invention, characterisation and sense of movement.
The Outward Urge is a science fiction novel by John Wyndham, consisting of linked short stories originally published in four issues of "New Worlds Science Fiction." Released in 1959, a fifth chapter was later added, initially published as a separate story in November 1960. The work was credited to both Wyndham and the pen-name Lucas Parkes, which Wyndham had used earlier in his career. This collection leans towards hard science fiction, diverging from Wyndham's typical style, prompting publishers to use both names.
Set between 1994 and 2194, the narrative unfolds in 50-year intervals, chronicling humanity's exploration of space, including Earth orbit space stations, moon bases, and landings on Mars in 2094, Venus in 2144, and the asteroids. The Troon family, driven by "the outward urge" to explore, plays a central role in this journey. They are depicted as hearing "the thin gnat-voices cry, star to faint star across the sky," a quote from Rupert Brooke's The Jolly Company. The story begins with "Ticker" Troon, who is killed while thwarting a Soviet missile attack on a British space station in 1994, posthumously awarded a Victoria Cross. By 2044, a nuclear war devastates the Northern Hemisphere, leading Brazil to claim dominance in space, only to face competition from Australia later on.

John Wyndham wrote strong, imaginative fiction years before fame came his way, and this is a collection of some of his pieces from those days. Already remarkable are his sense of movement, his sense of invention, his sense of style. The title story of this collection foreshadows frighteningly such later novels as THE KRAKEN WAKES and THE MIDWICH CUCKOOS with its suggestion of time when man is no longer the dominant creature on Earth. And The Last Lunarians and The Derelict of Space show how well he researched his material, long before space ships had struck out for the moon and the idea of inter-planetary travel had become commonplace. This is truly another fascinating piece of evidence of John Wyndham's remarkable talent as a seer and storyteller.

The "New Sea" was teeming with a secret life. It was the greatest engineering feat -- the flooding of part of the Sahara Desert. But the new waters that covered up the land also threatened to destroy an ancient, secret civilization beneath the earth. When Mark Sunnet's plane crashed into the New Sea, he and his beautiful companion, Margaret Lawn, were taken prisoner by these secret people. They were taken deep beneath the earth into strange, dark caverns. Caverns that seemed to hold no hope for escape. But Mark and Margaret had to escape. Then Matthew started doing things he couldn't do before, like counting in binary-code mathematics. So he told them about Chocky - the person who lived in his head.

When a freak cosmic event renders most of the Earth's population blind, Bill Masen is one of the lucky few to retain his sight. The London he walks is crammed with groups of men and women needing help, some ready to prey on those who can still see. But another menace stalks blind and sighted alike. With nobody to stop their spread the Triffids, mobile plants with lethal stingers and carnivorous appetites, seem set to take control. "The Day of the Triffids" is perhaps the most famous catastrophe novel of the twentieth century and its startling imagery of desolate streets and lurching, lethal plant life retains its power to haunt today.
