Second Chances

Set in 1892, the story follows eight-year-old Emily Bowers, an orphan traveling with her sisters to live with strangers in Davenport, Iowa. To cope with her loneliness, she writes to her former caregivers in Colorado, drawing strength from their memories. As she grows, Emily forms bonds with her new family and a neighbor from an orphan train, while uncovering her German immigrant mother's past. Ultimately, her journey to piece together her family's history and the complexities of love drives the narrative forward.
