The American paitner and sculptor Keith Haring, who died in 1990, is, without question, one of the most popular artists of the 20th century. More than a decade after his death, his output is still important to both a younger generation of artists and to the public in general. Therefore, as more and more of his fans and admirers know him only from the posters and products adorned with his images, it seems all the more essential to present the lesser-known aspects of Haring's to look beyond the Haring of the ubiquitous, world-famous cheerful matchstick figures. From his earliest days as an artist, Haring engaged with the meaning of death, suffering, and violence; with the importance of religion and the afterlife to the individual and to society. It is only against this background that his positive, life-affirming icons can be properly understood. The main focus of this publication is on paintings and drawings from the artist's estate, some of which have never been previously published, as well as the rarely seen, large format pictures and wall hangings on the theme of heaven and hell.

Seit seinem Katalog zur Ausstellung im Stedelijk-Museum in Amsterdam vor mehr als acht Jahren tritt Hubert Kiecol erstmals wieder mit einer Publikation in Erscheinung. Sie dokumentiert seine Arbeit der letzten Jahre auf zahlreichen farbigen Tafeln. Seine Skulpturen sind geprägt von einer selbstverständlichen Klarheit und erscheinen durch ihre reduzierten Formen zeitlos und allgemein gültig. Der Künstler entwickelte bereits in den 1980er Jahren eine ganz persönliche Sprache, die sich durch Präzision und eindrucksvolle Präsenz auszeichnet. Seine Skulpturen werden aus dem architektonisch funktionalen Kontext gelöst und existieren nur mehr als Form, die durch Reduktion und Proportion eine neue Gewichtung erhält. Als gelernter Schriftsetzer und Typograph hat Kiecol das Buch bis ins Detail selbst gestaltet.

Mit 44 Exponaten zeigt das Saarlandmuseum einen bedeutenden Ausschnitt aus seinem rund 60 Werke umfassenden Bestand an Druckgrafik Renoirs

Seit der Eröffnung im Juli 2004 hat das Museum in der Schloßkirche mehr als 250.000 Besucher angezogen. Viele dieser Besucher haben nach einem Buch über die Kirche, ihre Kunstschätze und das Museum gefragt. Nun liegt es vor.

Mit diesem Katalog zur Zeichnung wird erstmals eine ausführliche Zusammenstellung von graphischen Werken der Alten Sammlung vorgelegt.
