Businessman and art collector Hermann Lange kept an especially close friendship with architect Mies van der Rohe and the interior designer Lilly Reich, regularly sharing family, friends and each other's company. Between 1927 and 1930, this mutually energizing association resulted in collaborative structures such as Lange's own home, the famous Haus Lange in Krefeld, and the "Crous" apartment designed for Lange's eldest daughter and her husband in Berlin--the decor and furnishings of which the couple took with them to all of their later apartments, even into the 1990s--down to the original bell plate. It is worth noting that van der Rohe did not successfully develop any contemporary furniture before or after his 13-year collaboration with Reich. This volume is the first to present many of van der Rohe's and Reich's furniture works, as well as the original decor from Haus Lange, now a museum, thus providing new insights into the fruitful collaborations of these two great designers.

Something is missing in the Kaiserpark in Krefeld. But what? Only one thing is certain: There is definitely no lack of artistic excellence. As early as 2019, Thomas Schütte, known for his architectural models, had already built his Krefeld Pavilion there, designed precisely for this location. The wooden building, with a diameter of fifteen meters and a curved copper roof, housed the exhibition of the Projekt MIK initiative, which marked the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus by exploring its close links to the silk industry. Now, Thomas Schütte himself has designed an exhibition for this space: a carefully chosen and staged cross-section of his work over the last five decades. The exhibition and its architectural space combine to form an impressive total work of art. THOMAS SCHÜTTE (*1954, Oldenburg) studied with Fritz Schwegler and Gerhard Richter at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and is known for his special combination of architectural and sculptural elements. In 2005 he was awarded as best artist at the Biennale di Venezia.

Homecoming presents work by an emerging generation of Chinese architects that uses unique design and working approaches to resist generic mass construction and foreign iconic building. In particular, these architects are offering resistance against the rapid urbanization that has dominated the Chinese landscape. By responding to a local Chinese context, they have raised the avant-garde of China's architectural design practice in recent years. The title of the book has multiple meanings for the featured architects. For some, "homecoming" is returning back to China after they have studied and lived abroad. Others understand working with the rural as "coming home" to discover their ancestors and traditional roots. All may also refer to personal memories and perceptions they have of the Chinese countryside.

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886–1969) is one of the most important architects of the 20th century. Until 1938 he worked in Europe, ten years of which he cooperated with a small group surrounding the Krefeld collector and silk manufacturer Hermann Lange. During this extraordinary long term collaboration between Mies van der Rohe and his partner Lilly Reich with the “Krefeld friends” numerous important buildings were designed that are extensively presented in this splendid book. Mies van der Rohe’s planned but not realized projects are introduced with large-size computerized visualisations that have never been published before. This publication illuminates the close relationship of the architect and the “Velvet and Silk City” and gives fascinating insight into Mies van der Rohe’s work.

Die Studienarbeit untersucht die militärische Intervention der USA im Persischen Golf, die als "grenzenlose Gerechtigkeit" bezeichnet wurde, und analysiert deren tiefere Bedeutung. Anhand der Konzepte von Jürgen Habermas und Niklas Luhmann wird die Kampagne als eine moderne Interpretation von Rache und als Versuch, demokratische Werte wie Gerechtigkeit und Freiheit in eine als bedrohlich empfundene Welt zu bringen, betrachtet. Die Arbeit beleuchtet auch, wie diese Ereignisse das Verhältnis der Bürger zu ihren Regierungen beeinflussten und das Bedürfnis nach Schutz vor Terrorismus verstärkten.

Die Entwicklung des Raumbegriffs und seiner Umsetzung in der Zeichnung geht parallel mit der Entwicklung der emotionalen Reifung des Kindes. Die Autorin weist auf verblüffende Übereinstimmungen zwischen der Theorie Piagets und der Objektbeziehungstheorie der Psychoanalyse hin. In der empirischen Untersuchung über das realistische Zeichen von psychiatrisch auffälligen Kindern stellt sich heraus, dass es signifikante Unterschiede zur Vergleichsgruppe in Bezug auf Gefühlsintensität, Selbstdarstellung, Naivität, dem Erzählen einer Handlung, Objektmangel, Arbeitsbegriff sowie bei der Lösung von elaborierten Raumproblemen bzw. der formelhaften Darstellung gibt.
