After more than a decade of transformation and catching-up to the present members of the EU the applicant countries now comply with many of the political and economic requirements laid down at the Copenhagen summit in 1993. Because of such a clear direction it is necessary and advisable to take a close look at the chances and the risks of the enlargement for the old member countries as well as for the new ones. This is the background of a collection of articles published in this book. The papers cover a wide range of important aspects of the EU eastern enlargement, for instance trade effects, country-specific as well as EU politics, regional transborder co-operation and monetary issues concerning a country’s currency regime.

There is an ongoing discussion about causes and consequences of economic globalization. The effects of growing international trade, worldwide integration and international policy co-ordination are widespread and thus call our attention. This book focuses on four major topics of the debate: the conditions for a country’s trade on worldwide growing markets for goods and capital; environmental problems caused by international economic growth; effects of increasing international competition; national macro-policies under the influence of increasing international interdependencies.

Sustainable development has become one of the topics in modern economics. Since the Club of Rome pointed to limitations of economic growth caused by shortage of natural resources and environmental destruction, western industrial countries have made efforts to avoid these limitations and to establish conditions for sustainable growth. This is the background of a collection of articles published in this book. They are focused on theoretical analysis of growth and environment, political activities concerning environmental improvement, and actual problems of sustainable development in Poland.

Dieses Buch ist sowohl eine Einführung in die Makroökonomik für das wirtschaftswissenschaftliche Grundstudium als auch geeignet zur Erweiterung und Vertiefung der makroökonomischen Teilgebiete im Hauptstudium. Umfassend werden die gesamtwirtschaftlichen Zusammenhänge verdeutlicht, die wichtigsten ökonomischen Probleme moderner, international verflochtener Volkswirtschaften analysiert und die Wirkungen der staatlichen Beschäftigungs- und Konjunkturpolitik, der Geldpolitik sowie der Lohnpolitik diskutiert. Dabei wird zugleich ein Einblick in die kontroversen Lehrmeinungen und die neuen Denkrichtungen der Neoklassik und des Keynesianismus vermittelt. Das Buch ermöglicht auch ohne Vorkenntnisse einen Einstieg in die Methoden und Inhalte der Makroökonomik.
