In 35 samples from Gambia and Senegal 1972, among which 20 are proper littoral and at least 5 proper freshwater samples, a total of 71 diatom genera is recorded, represented by 338 taxa, Viz. 177 polyhalobe, 55 mesohalobe and 106 oligohalobe species. In 25 plates with 300 photos 219 different taxa from the analysed material are illustrated.
