This proceedings volume features extended abstracts from the 18th Symposium on Operations Research at the University of Cologne, held from September 1-3, 1993. The symposium is part of the annual meetings of the Gesellschaft für Mathematik, Ökonometrie und Operations Research (GMOOR), which connects research with applications in applied mathematics, economics, and operations research. The event showcased around 250 talks, emphasizing optimization and stochastics, with a particular focus on combinatorial optimization and discrete mathematics. New fields were also included, such as parallel and distributed computing and scientific computing. The volume contains extended abstracts of most conference papers, with longer versions expected to be published in refereed journals.
