Meer over het boek

In Oak Park, Frank Lloyd Wright made significant contributions to the Modern movement, starting with his home design in 1889. He expanded the house in 1895 for his wife, Catherine, and their family, and again in 1898 for his architectural practice. This building served as a learning laboratory for modern architecture, influencing the development of the Prairie School. Wright's ongoing modifications mirrored his early architectural evolution, where he and his young assistants reimagined American residential architecture's plans, spaces, materials, proportions, and lines, sparking a revolution on the Prairie. The home and studio became an experimental space for his ideas, adorned with contemporary artwork, oriental tribal rugs, and Japanese decorative arts selected by Wright and his wife. The studio featured classical plaster sculptures, Teco ceramics, and a vast collection of Japanese prints. Interiors were completed in nature-inspired hues, with custom furniture and built-ins designed by Wright, creating a harmonious environment. Jon Miller of Hedrich-Blessing's color photographs offer a glimpse into this transformative space, showcasing Wright's challenge to conventional architectural norms. The book also includes a portfolio of historic black and white photographs, some taken by Wright himself.
