Radiation in enclosures

Meer over het boek

Over the past fifty years, the International Flame Research Foundation (IFRF) in the Netherlands and various research organizations have focused on developing and testing combustion chamber performance prediction models. This effort has resulted in a hierarchy of standard numerical models, particularly for radiative heat transfer predictions. However, these methods, despite their solid physical foundation, rely on numerous extreme simplifications and uncontrolled assumptions. The increasing demands for energy efficiency in combustion chambers necessitate more accurate prediction algorithms and detailed radiative heat transfer calculations. Factors driving this need include advanced technology requirements, the high costs of large-scale experimental work, and the limitations of physical modeling. Consequently, there is a growing urgency for a comprehensive textbook that addresses radiative transfer in enclosures with greater accuracy. Writing such a textbook presents challenges, as it requires a balance between mathematical rigor and precision while also accommodating the complexities of the subject matter. This endeavor demands considerable time and contemplation to achieve the necessary depth and clarity.
