Sea level changes in Eastern Mediterranean during holocene

Recent advancements in coastal geomorphology, micromorphology, sedimentology, climatology, and geochronology, along with archaeological discoveries, facilitate a reconstruction of coastal palaeo-environments. Human activities in the littoral zone were influenced by coastal and nearshore conditions during periods of lower sea levels, impacting navigation through critical straits and channels. Uncertainties regarding factors like eustatic sea level, tectonic movements, erosion and deposition timing, and climatic data can lead to inaccurate assumptions. However, general models of coastal evolution during the Holocene can be developed, supported by thorough investigations in specific regions that provide data for validation or revision of these models. The workshop aimed to share recent research on Holocene sea level fluctuations recorded in the eastern Mediterranean. It also fostered professional and personal exchanges among scientists from various nationalities studying sea level indicators in the region. Key scientific topics included global sea level changes (eustatism, tectonism), sea level indicators (beachrock, notches, peat), and human impacts, particularly in archaeology during the Neolithic and Classical periods. The workshop's highlights and significant contributions are documented in this volume.
