This book is entirely dedicated to reading literature and includes a varied selection of literary texts from the end of the Renaissance to the end of the last century. The texts are gathered around five themes: The Dark Side of the Human Mind, Alienation and Loneliness, Male or Female, A Thing of Beauty and Good or Evil. Each theme is connected to different time periods because each period has had its own approach to the subject.In Streams in Literature you will find short stories, extracts from novels, poems and lyrics. The literary selection includes suck well-known authors as William Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, Mary Shelley, Edgar Allen Poe, Anne Brontë, J.R.R. Tolkien, Nick Hornby, Margaret Atwood, Carol Ann Duffy and Paul Auster, but also perhaps more unexpected ones such as Nick Cave and Eminem.Each text is followed by analytical questions, discussion points and optional writing tasks (creative and formal).It is also possible to compare and contrast the different texts in each theme.
