Meer over het boek

Conceptual modeling is essential for software development in information systems and data engineering, providing the languages, methods, and tools necessary to understand and represent application domains. It facilitates the elicitation, conceptualization, and formalization of system requirements and user needs, enabling effective communication of system designs to stakeholders and allowing for formal verification and validation at high levels of abstraction. The International Conference on Conceptual Modeling serves as a premier forum for presenting and discussing contemporary research and applications focused on conceptual modeling. Topics of interest encompass a wide range of areas, including theories of concepts and ontologies, methods and tools for developing and communicating conceptual models, and techniques for transforming these models into effective implementations. The scientific program of ER 2008 included multiple parallel activities, with a core focus on the presentation of 33 research papers published in this volume. These papers were selected by a dedicated Program Committee Co-chaired by Qing Li, Stefano Spaccapietra, and Eric Yu. We extend our gratitude to the PC Co-chairs, members, and additional referees for their diligent efforts, often under tight deadlines, as well as to Moira Norrie, Oscar Pastor, and Amit Sheth for their keynote presentations.
