Ethics and policy of biometrics

Auteurs

Meer over het boek

The past decade has seen a significant increase in the demand for biometrics and data security technologies across various sectors, including law enforcement, immigration control, and online security. These technologies are becoming essential for safeguarding information for governments, businesses, and individuals. However, their widespread use has raised ethical, privacy, and policy concerns. The large-scale implementation of biometrics in e-governance, e-security, and e-commerce necessitates an international dialogue involving key stakeholders to address the legal, political, philosophical, and cultural implications. The Third International Conference on Ethics and Policy of Biometrics and International Data Sharing successfully facilitated discussions among researchers, policymakers, consumers, and privacy advocates. Supported by the RISE project, the conference aimed to build consensus and formulate policy recommendations regarding the ethical, medical, legal, social, cultural, and political aspects of biometrics and data security technologies. Addressing potential concerns over biometrics systems requires the development of advanced technologies alongside clear policies that define conflicts of interest among stakeholders.
