Meer over het boek
Postcolonial Literatures in English have emerged as a vital area of global research. This series of introductory readers encompasses various regions, including South Asian, Australian, New Zealand and Pacific, African, Canadian, Caribbean, and Black and Asian British Literatures. The edited collections aim to assist students and educators in navigating the diverse cultural networks that have developed from the British Empire and Commonwealth. Each volume features an introduction outlining significant trends and developments in the respective region, along with recommendations for further reading. The specificities of each area are examined through a lens that considers histories, identities, language, education, movements, genres, and transcultural perspectives. For instance, the first volume focuses on South Asia, which primarily includes India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. This region's rich diversity in climate, landscape, fauna, and flora is mirrored in the ethnic, social, religious, and linguistic pluralities of its inhabitants. Consequently, a South Asian identity is often an ambiguous external construct. Our introduction offers a critical perspective on this fascinating area by engaging with its anglophone cultural debates and controversies.
