Gaius Iulius Solinus authored the Collectanea rerum memorabilium or Polyhistor, a late antique survey covering memorable lands, peoples, stones, plants, animals, and broader existential themes. Often regarded as the "chief Latin geographer to a millennium," his work enjoyed significant popularity, evidenced by numerous manuscripts and early printed editions. However, interest waned after that millennium, with critiques suggesting that the Collectanea have become irrelevant due to the availability of Solinus' sources today. This decline is reflected in the scarcity of recent research on Solinus, highlighting the need for new studies. Most contributions in this volume originated from a colloquium at the University and Research Library Erfurt/Gotha, which holds many early editions of the Collectanea. The conference demonstrated that Solinus' text, sources, authorial position, and its "Nachleben" merit further exploration. This collection includes a survey of Solinus' work, a revised manuscript handlist, and a comprehensive research bibliography. Contributions come from scholars including Arwen Apps, Caroline Belanger, Kai Brodersen, Paul Dover, and others, showcasing a renewed interest in Solinus' contributions to geography and literature.
