As orphan Jane becomes governess at Thornfield Hall, she falls in love with her employer, Mr Rochester, only to discover that he has a terrible secret, one which may jeopardize their future happiness. Charlotte Brontë's experiences are fictionalized in the Lowood section of Jane Eyre(1847; written under the pseudonym of Currer Bell). From 1831 to 1832 Charlotte was at Miss Wooler's school at Roehead, where she returned as a teacher in 1835, remaining there for three years. She was subsequently a governess and in 1842 went with her sister Emily to study languages at the Pensionnat Héger in Brussels, where she later taught. She wrote three other novels, Shirley(1849), Vilette(1853) and The Professor(published posthumously in 1857).
