This thesis deals with arc protection in PV systems. Based on the factthat powerand damging of the arc depend on the fault location the state-of-the-art of protection is estimated with respect to its effectiveness. Opportunities to improve current design features ars shown. A special measure technique is used to investigate the elctric properties of the arc under the particular conditions of PV systems. As result of the investigations the steady state and the stochastic behaviour of arcs of short length are available. The requirements for the existence of an arc determined with a numerical model on the PV system. Fundamental factors are exposed.
