A compact county of 354 square miles Peeblesshire has its fair share of castles and country houses. The former were necessarily defensive and the latter showy and fancy. Some, like Traquair, spanned the transition and are a bit of both. In this small volume there are 61 photos of various properties, mainly from the Edwardian period, the heyday of the country seat.
