In the small town of Pipalnagar, residents yearn for a more exciting life, each with their own dreams of escape. Deep Chand, the barber, fantasizes about cutting the prime minister's hair, while Pitamber longs for a ride in an autorickshaw. Arun, a struggling detective fiction writer, also seeks inspiration and finds unexpected love with Kamla, a perceptive young prostitute, and Suraj, an optimistic orphan with epilepsy.
