Set in 17th century Poland, the story follows Dovid, a poor man struggling in a Jewish community scarred by past tragedies. His life takes a turn when a wealthy stranger offers to change his fortunes in exchange for a future marriage between their children. Dovid's newfound wealth and his son's Talmudic brilliance bring joy, but when the benefactor demands his price, Dovid discovers the dark implications of his agreement. As he grapples with the consequences, he embarks on a quest for redemption and atonement.
