Set in Loweville, Colorado, the story follows sixteen-year-old Marley Kurtz, a bookworm sent to a program for troubled youth after a scandalous affair. There, he forms a bond with Missy, a pregnant teen, and becomes entangled with Jesse, a sociopathic boy with a troubled family background. As Marley navigates the complexities of friendship and love, the pressures of summer take a toll on his well-being, raising questions about the true impact of his companions and the local therapy group's intentions.
