Focusing on the role of the transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-1) gene, this study investigates its impact on end-stage renal disease (ESRD) among diabetic and hypertensive patients in the North Indian Punjabi population. It highlights the significant contribution of diabetes and hypertension to ESRD, with diabetes accounting for nearly 30% of cases in developing countries. Given the high prevalence of diabetes in India, understanding TGF-1's involvement is crucial for addressing the complex interactions of genetic and environmental factors in this inflammatory disease.
