Set against the backdrop of the Alaskan Panhandle, the story follows Nancy, who grows up in the isolated fishing community of Harbor Cove. Working alongside her father on a tugboat, she faces the challenges of a rugged life, towing log rafts and recovering logs during storms. Once she reaches adulthood, Nancy leaves her difficult past behind, seeking a life filled with modern comforts in the suburbs of Lynnwood, Washington, where she builds a family and a new identity, contrasting sharply with her upbringing.
