Set in the New Mexico Territory, the story follows Sherman Dahl, a hired gun known as "The Teacher," as he hunts down four wanted men. After a deadly gunfight in a saloon, Dahl is left wounded and under the care of a soiled dove. However, the local marshal, a corrupt figure, seeks to capture Dahl, complicating his mission and survival. The narrative explores themes of lawlessness and morality in a gritty frontier setting.
