Alan Harrison is an ambitious teenager desperate to escape his poor upbringing and make it in the world of international banking. Let down by his schooling, he overcomes the odds and after a chance meeting in a pub, secures his dream job which allows him to leave home where his relationship with his father was painfully fraught. He discovers that there are many highs and lows in the City and finds himself dragged into the murky world of financial espionage. He faces danger and revelations that reinforce his feeling of betrayal and mistrust of those close to him.
