This volume includes papers presented at the second Bioinformatics Research and Development (BIRD) conference held in Vienna from July 7–9, 2008. Covering a wide range of bioinformatics topics, this year’s focus included sequence analysis and alignment, pathways, networks, systems biology, protein and RNA structure and function, gene expression/regulation and microarrays, databases, data integration, machine learning, and data analysis. The Program Committee selected 30 out of 61 submitted contributions based on recommendations from three to five reviews for each paper. The conference featured three invited talks from experienced researchers, offering attendees valuable insights into the field of bioinformatics. Abstracts and additional information about these talks are available in the conference program and on the conference website. The volume also includes selected contributions from two workshops held concurrently with the main conference: the Workshop on Dynamical Aspects of Perturbation, Intervention, and Transition in Biological Systems (PETRIN 2008) and the Workshop on Algorithms in Molecular Biology (ALBIO 2008). Poster presentations from the BIRD conference are published in companion proceedings by Trauner Verlag, Linz.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 22nd International Symposium on String Processing and Information Retrieval, SPIRE 2015, held in London, UK, in September 2015. The 28 full and 6 short papers included in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 90 submissions. The papers cover research in all aspects of string processing, information retrieval, computational biology, pattern matching, semi-structured data, and related applications.

This book constitutes the refereed post-conference proceedings of the 29th International Workshop on Combinatorial Algorithms, IWOCA 2018, held in Singapore, Singapore, in July 2018. The 31 regular papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 69 submissions. They cover diverse areas of combinatorical algorithms, complexity theory, graph theory and combinatorics, combinatorial optimization, cryptography and information security, algorithms on strings and graphs, graph drawing and labelling, computational algebra and geometry, computational biology, probabilistic and randomised algorithms, algorithms for big data analytics, and new paradigms of computation.
