Many problems in tracking control have been identified over the years, such as theavailability of systems states, the presence of noise and system uncertainties, and speedof response, just to name a few. This research is concerned with developing novel integratedcontrol and estimation algorithms to overcome some of these problems in order toachieve an efficient tracking performance. Since there are some significant advantagesassociated with Sliding Mode Control (SMC) or Variable Structure Control (VSC), (fastregulation rate and robustness to uncertainties), this research reviews and extends newfiltering concepts for state estimation, referred to as the Variable Structure Filter (VSF)and Smooth Variable Structure Filter (SVSF). The VSF is combined seamlessly with the SMC to produce an integrated controller called a Sliding Mode Controller and Filter (SMCF). This new controller isshown to be a robust and effective integrated control strategy for linear systems. Fornonlinear systems, a novel integrated control strategy called the Smooth Sliding ModeController and Filter (SSMCF), fuses the SMC and SVSF in a particular form to addressnonlinearities.

Published as a companion analysis to an exhibition on the topic of illegal architecture in Taipei and China, this book focuses on the work and insight of two architects, Wang Shu and Hsieh Ying-chun, in a search for a more positive meaning for architecture. Functionalized Conjugated Polyelectrolytes presents a comprehensive review of these polyelectrolytes and their biomedical applications. Emphasis is placed on the various applications including sensing (chemical and biological), disease diagnosis, cell imaging, drug/gene delivery and disease treatment. Die Bauten des chinesischen Architekten und diesjährigen Pritzker-Preisträgers Wang Shu sind durch die Verwendung traditioneller Methoden und Materialien in klaren und einfachen zeitgenössischen Entwürfen geprägt. Charakteristisch für seine Gebäude ist dabei die Wiederverwendung von Baumaterialien. Shus Entwurfsprozess beginnt stets mit einer intensiven Beschäftigung mit dem Ort, den der Architekt möglichst lange besucht und auf sich wirken lässt. Seine Entwürfe entstehen dann in Form von Handskizzen, die in relativ kurzer Folge gezeichnet werden. Wang Shus Imagining the House vollzieht diesen Prozess am Beispiel unterschiedlicher Bauten nach. Fotostrecken von den Standorten machen die Recherche vor Ort wahrnehmbar. Die reproduzierten Zeichnungen zeigen, wie die Entwürfe sich verändern und konkretisieren. Das Buch bietet einzigartige Einblicke in die Arbeit des Architekten, der bisher in Europa noch wenig bekannt ist, und schliesst damit eine bedeutende publizistische Lücke.

Dieses Buch besteht aus 10 Kapiteln und mit jedem davon werden die Charaktere der Figuren deutlicher. Es beginnt damit, dass Oma Sommer für die Geschwister eine Nachbarin ist, über die sie nicht viel wissen. Martin beschreibt Oma Sommer sogar mit „ 倚老賣老 – yǐ lǎo mài lǎo“, was nicht sehr nett ist. Dann lernen sie sich immer besser kennen und Martin beginnt sogar ein Projekt, um Oma Sommer zu helfen. Am Ende sind alle überrascht, was für einen Lebensweg Oma Sommer beschritten hatte. Es gibt ein altes, chinesisches Sprichwort, das genau zu dieser Geschichte passt: „Jeder alte Mensch ist eine lebendige Geschichte.“ Egal ob man befreundet ist oder sich nur flüchtig kennt, man soll sich gegenseitig helfen.
