Focusing on social network analysis, this dissertation presents a novel method for characterizing individuals within a network by examining the local structure of graphs. It integrates concepts from sociology and complex graph studies, enabling application to various network sizes. The research includes applications to MySpace and mobile phone communication networks, exploring online popularity and introducing a new clustering method for similarly connected nodes. The techniques proposed are versatile and can extend beyond social networks to any graph type.
