This book - an outgrowth of a topical summer school - sets out to introduce non-specialists from physics and engineering to the basic mathematical concepts of approximation and Fourier theory. After a general introduction, Part II of this volume contains basic material on the complex and harmonic analysis underlying the further developments presented. Part III deals with the essentials of approximation theory while Part IV completes the foundations by a tour of probability theory. Part V reviews some major applications in signal and control theory. In Part VI mathematical aspects of dynamical systems theory are discussed. Part VII, finally, is devoted to a modern approach to two physics problems: turbulence and the control and noise analysis in gravitational waves measurements.

On parle sans cesse de la crise de l'école. Même si l'usage de ce mot est un peu trop systématique et renvoie à une attitude parfois désabusée et défaitiste, le constat n'en demeure pas moins juste. Il y a bien crise de la transmission, crise des rapports jeunes-adultes et crise des discours sur l'école. Dans ce contexte, la querelle de l'école opposant les pédagogues, les républicains et les humanistes, paraît singulièrement dépassée et quelque peu dérisoire. L'école d'aujourd'hui, celle du Ille millénaire, continue en fait de fonctionner sur des bases anthropologiques héritées du XIXe siècle et reste d'essence masculine et paternelle. Les valeurs éducatives de la modernité sont saturées. " La découverte des archétypes est de plus en plus en voie de fonder (cette) nouvelle anthropologie ", écrit Marie-Louise von Franz, disciple de C. G. Jung. C'est cette nouvelle anthropologie d'inspiration jungienne et archétypique qui est mobilisée dans cet essai portant sur une nouvelle éthique de l'action éducative. L'auteur y pose ainsi les premiers fondements d'une éducation postmoderne afin de contribuer au réenchantement de l'école.

Seit nunmehr 20 Jahren dominiert das Konzept des gerechten Friedens die Grundlagendiskussion evangelischer Friedensethik. Strub geht der Frage nach, inwiefern das Konzept des gerechten Friedens vor dem Hintergrund aktueller friedens- und sicherheitspolitischer Herausforderungen tatsächlich stringent als Orientierungsgröße gegenwärtiger friedensethischer Reflexion und als Grundlage eines zeitgemäßen friedensethischen Leitbilds entworfen werden kann. Dabei kommt der inhaltlichen Füllung des zugrunde gelegten Friedensbegriffs zentrale Bedeutung zu, wofür der Autor die friedensethische Debatte um den gerechten Frieden mit der jüngeren friedenstheoretischen Diskussion um den Begriff des Friedens vermittelt.
