This book includes contributions from an interdisciplinary field of research we call Socionics. Based on a close cooperation between sociologists and researchers from distributed artificial intelligence and multiagent systems, Socionics deals with the exploration of the emergence and dynamics of artificial social systems, agent societies, as well as hybrid man-machine societies. The aim is both to develop intelligent computer technologies by picking up theoretical concepts and methods from sociology and to improve sociological models of societies and organizations by using advanced computer technology. The 15 articles in this state-of-the-art survey combine selected contributions from sociology and informatics on the modeling, construction, and study of complex social systems with special regard to the problem of scaling multiagent systems. The discussion focuses on four specific research areas: multi-layer modeling, organization and self-organization, emergence of social structures, and paths from an agent-centered to a communication-centered perspective in modeling multiagent systems.

The ATOP (Agent-Based Technologies and Applications for Enterprise Interoperability) workshop series focuses on technologies that support interoperability in networked organizations, on successful applications of these technologies, and on lessons learned. So far two ATOP workshops have been held at the AAMAS conferences in Utrecht, The Netherlands, in July 2005, and in Estoril, Portugal, in May 2008. The 13 papers presented here are extended versions of carefully reviewed and selected contributions to the workshops. The topics covered are business interoperability; organizations and virtual institutions; modeling multiagent systems; agent interaction; and security. The main goal was to collect approaches for the application of agent technologies in these areas. Current trends in the development of agent technologies are compared with recent developments in service-oriented and model-driven system design, with respect to their ability to solve interoperability problems.

Das Jahr 1955 markierte den Beginn der Entstehungsgeschichte der Psychomotorik und war Anlass für die Jubiläums- und Kongressveranstaltung vom 6.-8. Oktober 2005 in Köln, der gleichberechtigt vom Aktionskreis Psychomotorik e. V., dem Berufsverband der Diplom-Motologinnen (BVDM e. V.), dem Deutschen Berufsverband der Motopädinnen / Mototherapeutinnen (DMBe. V.) und der Heilpädagogischen Fakultät der Universität zu Köln durchgeführt wurde. Der vorliegende Kongressband fasst die wichtigsten Vorträge, Seminar- und Workshopbeiträge von Wissenschaftlern aus Deutschland und verschiedenen europäischen Ländern zusammen und versteht sich als Profilschärfung durch neue Themen zwischen Bildungsdebatte und Gesundheitspolitik. Inhaltlich gliedert sich der Band in vier Themenbereiche: I. Lernforschung und Entwicklung, II. Qualitätsentwicklung und konzeptionelle Profilbildung in der Psychomotorik, III. Psychomotorik in Europa; IV. Die Bedeutung der Bewegung für Salutogenese und Resilienz. Mit diesem Kongressbericht leistet die Psychomotorik einen Beitrag zur interdisziplinären Fachdiskussion um Bildung und Gesundheit.

Hemicelluloses, comprising the non-cellulose cell wall polysaccharides of vegetative and storage tissues of annual and perennial plants, represent an immense renewable resource of biopolymers. They occur in a large variety of structural types and are accessible to chemical functionalization reactions. In light of this, the volume gives information of the state of the art focusing on new plant sources, isolation methods, and characterization of structural features, physicochemical and various functional properties. Attention has been paid to derivatives prepared from these polysaccharides and to application possibilities of hemicelluloses or hemicellulosic materials.
