This anthology presents the Nordic folk high school teacher through thirteen research articles combined under three themes: identity, work, and education, each part capped by overarching summary chapters. The folk high schools are given a central role in the democratic development of the Nordic region and are described as a significant influence on adult education globally, but there have been few regional research projects describing the schools. The inclusion of research covering five Nordic countries in a peer reviewed anthology makes this publication a unique portrayal, both of the schools' common identity and their national variations.

Resilience is one of the hottest terms in the modern humanities, social sciences and beyond. The reason for this is the current situation at various levels, from ecological, health, economical to political, which requires the formation of resilience from individuals, communities, countries, institutions and humanity as a whole. The term resilience refers to a new realistic paradigm in tackling the challenges required by the modern world, in which changes are happening faster and faster and are becoming less transparent and predictable. Therefore, the paradigm of stability and protection against disturbances is no longer realistic and has been replaced by the paradigm of resilience. People, natural and social systems can no longer be protected from ruptures, but must become as resilient as possible. This, in turn, raises a number of issues involving ethical questions and challenges for religions. This book addresses these issues in a holistic and interdisciplinary way that fits the multifaceted nature of resilience.

Floating architecture is not only an issue for luxurious tourism but with the climatic change the building of floating structures becomes relevant for many areas in the world. In regions with rising sea levels, frequent flooding, or thawing permafrost, floating structures can be a solution to adapt existing settlement areas to these new conditions. The self-sufficient energy and supply systems required for floating settlements can also be used in rural areas with a lot of migration. Essays collected in this volume deal with various problems from the philosophy of mathematics. What connects them are two questions: how mathematics is created and how it is acquired. In 'Three Worlds of Mathematics' we are familiarized with David Tall's ideas pertaining to the embodied, symbolic and formal worlds of mathematics. In 'Basic Ideas of Intuitionism', we focus on an epistemological approach to mathematics which is distinctive to constructive mathematics. The author focuses on the computational content of intuitionistic logic and shows how it relates to functional programming. 'The Brave Mathematical Ant' carefully selects mathematical puzzles related to teaching experiences in a way that the solution requires creativity and is not obtainable by following an algorithm. Moreover the solution gives us some new insight into the underlying idea. 'Degrees Of Accessibility Of Mathematical Objects' discusses various criteria which can be used to judge accessibility of mathematical objects. We find logical complexity, range of applications, existence of a physical model as well as aesthetic values.

Die ortsbezogene Vermittlung an Gedenkstätten sowie an anderen Lern- und Erinnerungsorten ist vor allem im Kontext der Geschichte des Nationalsozialismus längst Teil des Standardrepertoires historisch-politischer Bildungsarbeit. Welchen Herausforderungen und Chancen begegnen MultiplikatorInnen, LehrerInnen und Guides auf mehrtägigen Studienfahrten an Erinnerungsorte der NS-Verbrechen? Durch eine inhaltliche Dreiteilung werden theoretische Zugänge und relevante geschichtliche Aspekte thematisiert sowie drei ausgewählte Studienfahrten nach Österreich/Slowenien, Tschechien und Polen präsentiert.

Am Beispiel der Philippinen wird internationale Rekrutierung als Maßnahme gegen den Fachkräftemangel in der Pflege betrachtet. Unklare Folgen der Arbeitsmigration auf die philippinische Gesundheitsversorgung und unterschiedliche praktische und ethische Ansprüche erfordern Diskussion, Reflexion und Gestaltung. Dazu teilen deutsche und philippinische Beteiligte am Rekrutierungsprozess ihre individuellen Erfahrungen und Erkenntnisse. Die systematische ethische Reflexion hilft nicht nur diakonischen Einrichtungen bei der Konzeption einer Rekrutierung nach ethischen Maßstäben.

Diesem Anliegen wollen die Herausgebenden des vorliegenden Buches entgegenkommen und portraitieren die "Lernwerkstatt im Wasserschloss" sowie die "Integrative Lernwerkstatt Brigittenau", zwei Lernorte, deren Entstehungsgeschichten wie Organisationsstrukturen kaum unterschiedlicher sein könnten - Ersteres ein privat organisiertes Schulprojekt in ländlicher Umgebung, Letzteres eine öffentliche Schule in der Großstadt. Was beide Projekte aber über alle Unterschiede hinweg miteinander verbindet, ist der gelebte "Alltag": Einer "Defizit-Kultur" und rigiden 50-Minuten-Einheiten eine Absage erteilend, rücken in diesen beiden Lernorten die Selbsttätigkeit, die persönlichen Potenziale und die Interessen der Kinder sowie ein demokratisches Miteinander und gelebte Inklusion in den Vordergrund. Mögen die Portraits der beiden Lernwerkstätten sowie die zahlreichen Hinweise auf ähnliche Projekte in diesem Band im Sinne des Titels des Buches all jene inspirieren, die mit Kindern neue pädagogische Wege gehen möchten.
