Chris Hesketh Boeken

Focusing on the production of space within the global political economy, this work explores state formation in Mexico through original fieldwork in Chiapas and Oaxaca. Chris Hesketh integrates multiple disciplines to analyze the complex interactions of power at various levels—global, regional, national, and sub-national. He employs Antonio Gramsci's concept of passive revolution to illustrate how state-led capitalism can inhibit the meaningful participation of marginalized classes in societal development.

Tells the story of Rugby League great Chris Hesketh, captain of the British Lions Rugby League touring team that flew to Australia and New Zealand in 1974. That honour and more, was achieved after overcoming polio as a child and the shattering experience of being discarded by his first professional club who he had followed since being a youngster.
