Basil Rathbone Boeken

Philip St. John Basil Rathbone, een Brits acteur van Zuid-Afrikaanse afkomst, verwierf aanvankelijk faam als Shakespeare-toneelacteur. Hij maakte de overstap naar film, waar hij uitblonk in kostuumdrama's en zwaardvechtersfilms, vaak gestalte gevend aan charmante schurken of moreel ambigue personages. Zijn meest iconische rol was echter die van de heldhaftige detective Sherlock Holmes, zowel in films als op de radio. Zijn veelzijdigheid reikte ook tot Broadway, waar zijn optredens veel lof oogstten.
