    • Published halfway between the new Polish Army's surprise humbling of the vast but untrained Red Army in 1920 and its obliteration at the hands of Hitler's Wehrmacht in 1939, this handbook gives the British War Office's official view of the new kid on the European block. It is, however, much more than a portrait of the Polish army in isolation - as it also gives a rundown of the new Polish state - its natural features, roads and rail, population, ethnography, religion, education and 'national character'. There is much on the constitution and Government of the new state; and another chapter is devoted to the industry, agriculture and natural resources of Poland. The chapters on the army itself are completely comprehensive, covering command, training, Arm., transport, Organisation, recruitment, uniforms, artillery, cavalry and mechanisation and much more. Poland's navy and air force, too, are not forgotten. With charts of uniform insignia, maps this is a complete picture of a new state and its army before nemesis arrived.

    • First printed 1919 for private circulation this rare volume (in its first printing) was compiled from records kept by Messrs Cox & Co.'s Enquiry Office, which opened in Sep 1914 in Craig's Court, Charing Cross and gained full support of the War Office. Some 8,700 names are listed, including officers of the RAF, RNAS, RN Div and Dominions. Names are shown by regiments/corps and by battalions within regiments in the order of capture. Deaths in captivity are noted together with dates reported missing and dates of repatriation. The index lists every name in alphabetical order. A very valuable source of information.

    • With a small professional army fully stretched in defending the British Empire at its zenith in 1896, home defence fell on locally raised County Yeomanry and Militia units. This brief booklet is designed to acquaint these volunteers with the use of the rifles coming into use at the end of the 19th century. Contains naming of parts; cleaning; stripping and assembling the rifle; easing springs and replacing strikers and mainsprings in the field. A must for all students of ballistic weapons.
