This collection features 41 arrangements tailored for advanced soprano recorder or intermediate flute, drawing from spirituals, folk songs, and melodies by African-American composers. Notable works include classics like "Carry Me Back to Old Virginny" and "Down by the Riverside." It also includes five original solos and offers a fingering chart for high notes, performance notes, and tips for integrating sound systems and percussion. These seventy-five duets are arranged for several combinations: two flutes, or various pairs of recorders, such as S&A, S&T, A&T, as well as equal instruments, such as two alto recorders. The duets are all fresh - no transcriptions and all arranged during 2009-2010. More than half of the duets are original compositions written specifically for this collection. While most of the duets are intermediate for flute and advanced-intermediate for recorders, there are several easier pieces and several that are more advanced.
