V druhom zväzku Dialógov významného starogréckeho filozofa Platona (427–347 pred n. l.) sú zahrnuté dielo Štát, Parmenides, Teaitetos, Sofista a Štátnik.
Dielo Štát sa zaoberá podstatou spravodlivosti a jej úlohou v ľudskej spoločnosti. Sokrates analyzuje rôzne formy štátu a navrhuje ideálne zriadenie, kde vládnu filozofi a občania slúžia podľa svojej povahy. Platonov štát predstavuje prvú utópiu, ktorá má viesť k cnosti a blaženosti. V diele sa nachádza aj známe podobenstvo o jaskyni, ktoré ilustruje jeho učenie o ideách.
Dialóg Parmenides kriticky skúma učenie o ideách a diskutuje o hlavných problémoch eleatského učenia, zatiaľ čo Teaitetos sa zaoberá otázkou, čo je vedenie, a Sokrates tu odpovedá v rozhovore s matematikom Teaitetom, čím prispieva k poznaniu Platonovej noetiky.
Dialógy Sofista a Štátnik uzatvárajú výber v tomto zväzku, pričom sa zameriavajú na definíciu sofistu a podstatu dokonalého štátnika. Mnohé myšlienky Platona prekonali čas a zostávajú aktuálne aj pre súčasného čitateľa, ponúkajúce cenné podnety na zamyslenie.
Součástí je i významný sókratovský dialog Prótagoras o podstatě a významu výchovy. Za zmínku stojí rovněž dialog Gorgias o protikladu rétoriky a etiky.
Tretí zväzok kompletného diela gréckeho filozofa Platona obsahuje päť menších dialógov, najrozsiahlejší dialóg Zákony a súbor 13 listov. V dialógu Filebos sa skúma etický problém dobra, zatiaľ čo Timaios podáva výklad vzniku sveta. Kritias rozpráva o Atlantíde, ostrove s tajomným zánikom. V nedokončenom dialógu Kritias, ktorý nadväzuje na Timaios, autor podrobne opisuje civilizáciu Atlantídy, ktorá existovala pred 9000 rokmi.
Nosným dialógom tohto zväzku sú Zákony (Nomoi), v ktorých Sparťan, Kréťan a Aténčan diskutujú o ideálnej ústave založenej na absolútnej moci zákonov. Platonove návrhy, vrátane zákona o "staromládeneckej dani", sú stále aktuálne a pripomínajú moderné zákony. Napríklad, ak sa niekto neožení do 35 rokov, mal by byť peňažne trestaný a nemal by mať úctu od mladších.
Po Zákonoch nasledujú menšie dialógy Epinomis a Minos, a zväzok uzatvára súbor 13 listov, ktoré Platon píše Dionýsiovi a priateľom. Tieto listy priblížia Platona ako človeka a odhaľujú zákulisie syrakúzskeho kráľovského dvora, kde sa snažil realizovať svoj ideálny štát. Platonov význam je nesmierny a tento prvý kompletný preklad na Slovensku umožňuje spoznať jeho myšlienky priamo z prvej ruky.
Band 1: Apologie des Sokrates und Frühdialoge – EthikDie neue Ausgabe der Werke Platons basiert im wesentlichen auf der von W.F. Otto, E. Grassi und G. Plamböck besorgten sechsbändigen Rowohlt-Ausgabe von 1957 bis 1959. Ihr liegt nach wie vor die deutsche Übertragung von Schleiermacher zugrunde. Für die wenigen Texte, die Schleiermacher nicht übersetzt hat, wurde wie üblich die Übertragung von Hieronymus Müller verwendet. Band 1 enthält die gesamten frühen Dialoge, die manchmal auch als sokratische bezeichnet werden und um die Frage nach dem menschlichen Gutsein in Konfrontation mit Sophistik und Rhetorik kreisen.
