Written by British military historian Hugh Pond, this is the story of the campaign at Salerno in 1943. It is told mainly from the British perspective, but includes a good account of the American efforts. The history tells of the near-disaster of this effort to leap-frog up the coast of Italy to set the stage for taking Naples.
