Deník v dopisech, vedený Anne Frankovou od 12. června 1942 do 1. srpna 1944, vychází v novém českém překladu, který se vrací k názvu, jenž si autorka zamýšlela. Anne psala deník pro sebe, až do chvíle, kdy slyšela projev nizozemského ministra školství, který vyzval k shromáždění svědectví o utrpení během okupace. Tento impuls vedl Anne k rozhodnutí vydat knihu po válce, přičemž základem měl být její deník. Od května 1944 začala deník přepracovávat, vynechávala méně zajímavé pasáže a doplňovala nové myšlenky. Poslední zápis pochází z 1. srpna 1944, kdy byla rodina zatčena. Zápisky byly zachráněny Miep Giesovou a Bep Voskuijlovou a po válce je otec Otto Frank vydal. Sestavil zkrácenou verzi z původních a přepracovaných zápisů. Nový překlad do češtiny, který vytvořila Magda de Bruin Hüblová, se zaměřuje na autenticitu textu a zachovává jeho zvláštnosti. Anne Franková, narozená 12. června 1929, emigrovala s rodinou v roce 1933 do Amsterodamu, kde se od července 1942 skrývali před pronásledováním Židů. Po prozrazení úkrytu byla deportována do koncentračních táborů, kde zahynula. Její deník byl po válce přeložen do mnoha jazyků a zpracován do dramatických a filmových verzí.
