Mindfulness has become a very popular concept in recent years. This book positions heartfulness as an additional requirement for holistic leadership in the education sector and beyond. Why, when, where and how to internationalise are core questions for leaders, managers and their organisations today. This book provides a unique overview of the true essence of international management. As opposed to a conventional product-related country-oriented approach to the international business area, this book intends to follow modern trends in international management with a greater focus on internationalisation of firm’s earnings and costs. The total economic result of international business transactions in the firm takes account of all cross-border inflow and outflow of cash. Modern firms participate in industrial value chains that tend to cross national borders intensively. The firm’s value chain activity exercised in a certain country serves as an appropriate unit of analysis in multinational firms' decision-making. The combination of such analytical units as firm, industry with its value chain, country and modes of foreign and cross-border operations is at the heart of the book's structure. Based on decades of delivering award-winning executive education seminars and projects in numerous countries, the authors address key questions in order to perpetuate an organisation’s as well as an individual’s success in international activities. Numerous case studies from a variety of firms, industries and countries help illustrate options and choices.

Internationalization journeys We will outline in this book that internationalization represents a much desired corporate endeavor, yet also one that is not yet fully mastered. Performance suffers at various stages in the internationalization journey, contingent upon the country of origin, the chosen path and the skills companies built up in order to master the adversity. A key variable to understand better in internationalization journeys is organizational culture, a construct which has been fascinating researchers and practitioners for a long time. The study presented in this book does not understand organizational culture as a fatalistic construct. Cultures can be formed to some extent and this book outlines the adaptations needed at different stages of internationalization journeys of German versus US companies. Innovations in Executive Education This book summarizes recent and imminent innovations in executive education. The overview starts with making a crucial distinction between various types of institutions, as not all innovations can be universally applicable in any given context. Critical reviews of innovations relating to the purpose of executive education, subject matters covered, applied methodologies, session flows, and faculty mixes follow. The authors clarify that executive education directors and faculty must be able to manage two operating logics. On one hand they have to be market oriented. On the other they have to drive markets with their innovations. Participants of great executive education are thus both, customers and products, which puts a demanding responsibility on the learning experts involved. The book also contains additional chapters on how to detect and assess the outcomes of unique learning interventions and transformational executive education - both quantitatively and qualitatively. The insights on innovations in executive education are assembled by adopting a global view, which nonetheless demonstrate sensitivity to local differences.
