Christology of the Family focuses on learning to care for one another as Christ cares for us. Central to the gospel is God's caring love, which underpins the incarnation, atonement, Word of God, sacraments, and the church itself. The disciple's calling to care flows from God's heart through the Holy Spirit, who equips us to support the lost, suffering, and brokenhearted. However, the family has been impacted by a culture of entertainment and immediacy, leading to a loss of its primary purpose: to care for one another as the Good Shepherd does for His sheep. It is essential for the Christian family to reclaim the heart of the gospel and focus on creating new disciples rather than merely church members. The pastoral care community must be trained in listening and reflecting theologically based on practical experiences. All disciples are called to be caregivers, whether at home, work, or church. The roles of the church and family include training, supporting, and guiding these caregivers. The Rev. Michael Lessard, president of Pastoral Care Associates, provides pastoral care services and chaplain intern training in Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona. An Anglican priest with the Anglican Mission in the Americas, he has previously served as parish associate, vicar, and rector. He is married to Dorothy and has three adult children and one grandchild.
