The Growth of the Church in Buganda; an Attempt at Understanding
    • 2021

I am deeply grateful to the many Africans who generously shared their time and hospitality to aid my understanding. I must mention Brusoni Wandera, who devoted four months to assist me with unwavering friendship. Dr. A. I. Richards of the East African Institute of Social Research provided invaluable insights and reviewed my manuscript with stimulating suggestions. Dr. Lloyd A. Fallers, then head of the Institute, offered guidance and encouragement, while Mr. Anthony Low of Makerere College generously shared his expertise on Uganda's history. I also thank Mr. John Goldthorpe of Makerere College for allowing me to attend several student seminars. My special gratitude goes to the Rt. Rev. Leslie Brown, Bishop of Uganda, and the Diocesan Council for inviting the International Missionary Council to conduct the study and for their warm encouragement. Miss Ferrier and Miss Belcher at the Church Missionary Society headquarters were exceptionally helpful, responding to my requests with patience. I am particularly thankful to Mr. H. B. Thomas for his invaluable assistance in reviewing my draft and overseeing the publication process in my absence. His unsolicited kindness and dedication during retirement are beyond words to express my gratitude.
