Sima Qian wordt vereerd als de vader van de Chinese historiografie, een titel die hij verdiende voor zijn monumentale werk dat de Chinese geschiedenis meer dan twee millennia lang beschrijft. Sima Qian (145?-90? BCE) was the first major Chinese historian. His Shiji, or Records of the Grand Historian, documents the history of China and its neighboring countries from the ancient past to his own time. These three volumes cover the Qin and Han dynasties.
Sima Qian tells the story of the First Emperor, founder of the Qin dynasty, in whose reign the Great Wall was built and whose tomb was guarded by the famous terracotta warriors excavated in 1974. His account details the ruthless exercise of power but also the creation of an empire that endured until 1911.
This is a Chinese-study auxiliary book for English and French native speakers. The 19 stories contained in this text were carefully selected from Records of the Historian by Sima Qian, a Chinese writer, historian and philosopher of the west Han dynasty. His book is one of the most famous historical writings over the last 2000 years in China. The selected chapters have been re-written in simple contemporary language, keeping close to the plots of the originals stories and maintaining the deftness of their characterization.
Kniha vrchních písařů (Š'-ťi) je klíčovým dílem čínské historiografie, pokrývajícím historii Číny od mytických počátků po stabilizaci říše za císaře Wua dynastie Chan (140-87 př. n. l.). Autor S'-ma Čchien (asi 145-86 př. n. l.) zkoumá otázky historie, spravedlnosti a rozhodování v těžkých situacích prostřednictvím zaznamenaných událostí a osobních poznámek. Český překlad představuje čtvrtý překlad do evropského jazyka, zachycující přibližně jednu čtvrtinu monumentálního díla a ukazuje specifickou kompozici čínského historického spisu, reflektující dobové představy o hierarchii. Obsahuje také známé příběhy čínského starověku, které se staly základem pro literární a filmová zpracování. Překladatelka navázala na práci českého sinologa Timotea Pokory (1928-1985) a zahrnula čtyři jeho překlady z rukopisů. Doprovází ho poznámky a podrobné komentáře, které zprostředkovávají pohled čínského čtenáře s odlišnou tradicí a filosofickým zázemím. Dílo tak ilustruje tradiční čínský přístup k textu, historii a světu. Rozsáhlá úvodní studie o počátcích čínské historiografie se opírá o nejnovější sinologické bádání a uvádí toto téma do českého prostředí poprvé. Kniha je doplněna rejstříky, mapami a obrazovými přílohami.
