Hrdinou příběhuje Clarence, který od dětství, kdy se svou malou přítelkyní Suzy unikl náhodou smrti v prerii při nájezdu Indiánů, prošel řadou nebezpečí, v nichž se zocelil v muže, který hraje dramatickou úlohu ve válce Severu proti Jihu.
