Kann es sein, dass die vielen verschiedenen Baumeister in geografisch so weit von einander entfernt liegenden Weltgegenden zufällig zu der gleichen charakteristischen und komplexen architektonischen Form gefunden haben? Der Historiker Professor Robert M. Schoch (Boston University) ist dieser Frage nachgegangen und kommt zu erstaunlichen Ergebnissen. Nach unserem bisher gültigen Geschichtsmodell wussten vor der Entdeckungsreise des Kolumbus Alte und Neue Welt nichts von einander. Den Menschen auf beiden Seiten des Atlantiks mangelte es, so die Erklärung der meisten Historiker, bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt an der Motivation und vor allem an den nautischen Fähigkeiten, die Fahrt über weite Wasserstrecken zu wagen. Schoch weist nach, dass zahlreiche Datierungen, auf denen unsere Vorstellung von den geschichtlichen Abläufen basiert, schlicht falsch sind. Der Sphinx in der Nähe der Pyramiden von Gizeh kann nicht, wie allgemein angenommen, zwischen 3000 und 2350 v. Chr. entstanden sein, sondern wurde bereits zwischen 7000 und 5000 v. Chr. aus dem Fels gemeißelt. Und umfangreiche C-14-Analysen (Radiokarbondatierungen) von historischem Baumaterial lassen den Schluss zu, dass ähnliche Datierungsfehler auch für die Pyramiden von Gizeh gelten. Schoch ist auf noch weitere Widersprüche gestoßen: Wie lassen sich die zahlreichen Parallelen in den astrologischen, mathematischen, religiösen und mythischen Strukturen der alten ägyptischen, asiatischen und mittelamerikanischen Kulturen sowie auch sprachliche und ethnologische Verwandtschaftsmerkmale, Ähnlichkeiten der Schrift, der Waffentechnik, des Pflanzenspektrums u.ä. erklären? Schoch zeigt, dass die Antwort nur in intensiven Kontakten zwischen Europa, Amerika und dem pazifischen Raum liegen kann, die es weit vor Kolumbus gegeben haben muss. Und er belegt dies mit frappierenden Übereinstimmungen seiner klimatischen, genetischen, geologischen und geografischen Untersuchungen und Grabungsfunden aus jüngster Zeit. Diese Hinweise lassen nur den einen Schluss zu: Es muss eine untergegangene Proto-Zivilisation gegeben haben, eine Hochkultur, die in der Lage war, einen Wissenstransfer über Ozeane hinweg zu leisten.
