The British Airborne landings on Sicily are the least known and, without doubt, the most fraught with political and technical strife. Newly formed Air landing troops were delivered into battle in gliders they knew little about. The men of the Glider Pilot Regiment (GPR) had self-assembled the gliders while living in the empty packing cases. They accomplished this complex and technically challenged task while living on fly ridden, dusty North African airfields. After only a few hours of conversion training they took off for a night flight across the Mediterranean Sea that was to end in near-catastrophe. With over three hundred soldiers drowned off Sicily that night in July 1943, the first major operation attempted by the British using gliders almost ended in total disaster. In fact a few Airborne troops reached dry land and attacked their objectives. Shining examples of collective and individual acts of courage rocked the Italian and German defenders. This book tells the controversial story of that first mass glider operation and the men who proved the GPR motto - Nothing is Impossible. This is the first account of the Sicily air landing operation.

"Mike Mason goes on a poetic search to understand the wondrous dynamics of committed love. In highly readable, first-person style, Mason's writing stimulates readers' thoughts and prayers and propels couples to deeper intimacy. "A marriage is not a joining of two worlds," says the author, "but an abandoning of two worlds in order that one new one might be formed." Rich chapters on "Otherness," "Vows," "Intimacy," "Sex," "Submission," and an all-new chapter on "Oneness" lift readers to view the eternal, spiritual nature of this faith-filled, "impossible," wild--yet wonderful--frontier.'--Provided by publisher

This book covers the theory behind version control and how it can help developers become more efficient, work better as a team, and keep on top of software complexity. All projects need version control: it's the lifeblood of any project's infrastructure, yet half of all project teams in the U.S. don't use any version control at all. Many others don't use it well and end up experiencing time-consuming problems. Version control, done well, is your "undo" button for the project: nothing is final, and mistakes are easily rolled back. This book describes Subversion, the latest and hottest open source version control system, using a recipe-based approach that will get you up and running quickly--and correctly. Learn how to use Subversion the right way--the pragmatic way. With this book, you can: Keep all project assets safe--not just source code--and never run the risk of losing a great idea Know how to undo bad decisions--even directories and symlinks are versioned Learn how to share code safely, and work in parallel for maximum efficiency Install Subversion and organize, administer and backup your repository Share code over a network with Apache, svnserve, or ssh Create and manage releases, code branches, merges and bug fixes Manage 3rd party code safely Now there's no excuse not to use professional-grade version control.

In this systematic introduction to the contemporary history of what has become known as the "Third World," professor Mike Mason poses a double-barrelled question: Why have most of the countries of the Third World failed to "develop" in ways that benefit the majority of their populations? And why have their political problems proved so intractable?
The book offers a compelling exploration of non-Western states, tracing their evolution from the decline of European empires to their integration into the global capitalist system.
